The AEGD program also increases the understanding of practice administration through hands-on experience in this area. Completion of an AEGD program can help to better prepare the dentist to evaluate patients' total oral health needs, provide a full range of general dental care, and refer patients, when indicated, to appropriate specialists. AEGD graduates should have a broader base of knowledge and experience to facilitate judgments in diagnosis, treatment planning, and decision making during treatment. The specific objectives of the program are to enhance competence and confidence in the various clinical disciplines that are integral components of dentistry. The major distinction between the AEGD and GPR programs is the emphasis that the AEGD program places on clinical dentistry in contrast to the emphasis on medical management in the GPR program. That is, we may encode information to long-term memory in the wrong sequence, and also retrieve it from long-term memory in a newly formed wrong sequence. Additionally, similar “short circuiting” issue occurs when retrieving infromation from long-term memory to the working memory. As a results, the information gets encoded (saved) improperly to our memory. Therefore, when the central executive sends the new acquired information to the hippocampus in dyslexic individuals, it does not always do it in a sequential order. As mentioned it distributes the information (auditory/visual) to the appropriate brain area for processing, but the issue is that the central executive does not distribute the information in a sequential order to correct brain area (imagine it as it’s short circuiting and is sending out the information in a quasi-random fashion). Thus, the information get held into the working memory in their respective component (I.e., visual = visuospatial sketchpad auditory = phonological loop) and then gets distributed by the central executive (also a component of the working memory) to the appropriate brain area. Now, when we receive information we tend to receive it through our perception, generally visual or auditory. The hippocampus is known for creating and solidifying new memories. It is in the hypocampus that new information arrives and gets processed. With this in mind, I believe it would be more justifiable to investigate the interaction of the brain area called the hippocampus and the working memory than procedural memory (or any type of long-term memory for that matter). There is rarely (if ever) one brain area or component that we can point to fully explain a phenomena or behaviour.
